Frequently Asked Questions
No, you don't need a partner to learn to dance. You can learn to dance on your own or with someone special. Whether you are a single, couple, or have a partner that isn’t interested in learning to dance, you are welcome to join us and learn. We have a great community of dancers in our group classes and a welcoming environment that includes all types and ages of people.

Wedding Couples
If you are wanting to prepare for your upcoming wedding then private lessons are the way to go. Head over to the booking page and select "Wedding Lessons" or simply contact me directly to schedule your first 45 minute private lesson. You will be able to chose a preferred date and time that works best for you.
Some students arrive for lessons straight from work and others may be dressed more casually for their lessons – either is fine. The most important thing is to wear something comfortable, which allows you to move easily. You’ll also want to select comfortable well fitting shoes. We suggest leather-sole shoes for gentlemen, and a shoe with a back for ladies, no flip flops or backless sandals. Shoes with grippy rubber soles aren't the best option either because they tend to stick to the floor. So try to find a smooth soled shoe that has some slip to it. Dance shoes are not required to get started.
This depends on what type of event you are preparing for and what your goals are.
For example, a couple preparing for their wedding first dance would need a minimum of about 5 lessons for simple 1-2 minute choreography, and up to 20 lessons for a multi song show piece depending on the complexity.
While couples just wanting some fun dance moves to use at a reception or live music event may be able to pick up enough in 2-3 lessons.
For those preparing for other types of performance events such as choreography for filming, showcase performances, or a Quincenera or birthday party, we would have to discuss the recommended amount of lessons after your initial lesson and consultation. These types of event are all different and depending on your goals I can help customize a plan specifically for you.
Unfortunately, no.
While you will learn a lot on your first lesson and leave with some new moves, there is much to master when it comes to being a proficient social dancer and you will need to conquer the fundamentals before hitting the dance floor.
There are also many different styles of dance to consider when it comes to the social dance scene. Often times on your first lesson we will need to let you "taste test" several of your options first before we find the perfect style for you to focus your efforts. Dances like salsa and swing, may seem rather simple in the beginning but actually require a great deal of self awareness and operate under a very specific set of rules. In order to enjoy yourself in a social situation I do recommend committing to at least a few months private instruction to help you master the foundation of the dance.
The New Student Special found on the Lessons page is a great option for those unsure of which dance to start with on your dance journey.
